Spooky Social Media Tricks to Boost Engagement

Fall is here, and so are my favorite spooky social media tricks to boost engagement! I love this time of year—the crisp air, cozy sweaters, and of course, all things pumpkin. But beyond the costumes and candy, fall is the perfect season to add a little fun and creativity to your social media.

When I first started my business, I remember how hard it felt to stand out online. Everyone seemed to have the perfect posts, and I didn’t know where to start. But then I realized something simple—people connect with real people. So today, I want to share a few lighthearted, spooky-themed tricks that can help you bring your audience closer while growing your business.

1. Create a “Frightfully Fun” Theme for the Month

Themes make your social media easier to plan—and more fun for your followers! Try using a spooky theme for October. You can call it “31 Days of Biz Magic” or “Boo-tiful Business Tips.” Each day, share a simple idea, quote, or behind-the-scenes peek that ties into your theme.

For example, post a “Scary Business Mistake” you learned from and what you did to fix it. Keep it real and helpful. Your audience will love your honesty and your creativity.

When I did this one year, I noticed more comments and shares than ever before. People related to the silly “mistakes” I shared because they’d made them too! That’s the magic of spooky social media—it’s playful but still packed with purpose.

2. Share Your “Monster Metrics”

Numbers can feel scary, but sharing your wins helps your audience trust you. Create a fun graphic showing your “monster metrics”—like how many clients you’ve helped, the number of new followers you’ve gained, or how many hours you’ve saved with a new system.

You can say, “I’ve helped 25 clients break free from their biggest fears in business—what’s your biggest fear right now?” This simple question encourages engagement and starts great conversations.

I do this with my clients often, and it sparks connection. It shows that growth isn’t perfect—it’s a process. And that’s something every entrepreneur can relate to.

3. Host a “Trick or Treat” Giveaway

One of the easiest ways to boost engagement is with a giveaway! You can call it “Trick or Treat for Entrepreneurs.” Ask followers to share one lesson they’ve learned in their business this year. Then, choose one or two winners to receive a small prize—maybe a free 20-minute strategy chat, a digital planner, or a coffee gift card.

I’ve hosted mini giveaways like this in my Women’s Business Resource Community, and they always bring new energy to the group. It’s a chance to celebrate progress and reward your audience for showing up. And it fits the spooky social media vibe perfectly!

4. Tell a “Haunted Business Story”

Everyone loves a good story—especially one with a happy ending. Share a short story about a time something in your business didn’t go as planned. Maybe you launched a product that didn’t sell or worked too hard and burned out.

Be real about what scared you most and how you overcame it. Then share what you learned. This type of story makes you relatable and human. I once shared about a time I tried to do everything myself and almost gave up. The comments flooded in with other women saying, “Me too!”

That’s when I realized—authenticity builds trust faster than any ad ever could.

5. Use Spooky Hashtags and Emojis

Sometimes, the smallest details make the biggest difference. Sprinkle in Halloween-themed emojis 🎃👻🕸️ or hashtags like #SpookySocialMedia, #BooYourBiz, or #WickedlySmartWomen.

These little touches make your posts stand out in a fun, festive way. And when people smile while reading your post, they’re more likely to engage. Remember, engagement isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being present.

6. Share a Behind-the-Scenes “Potion”

Your followers love to see what’s behind the curtain. Share a photo or short video of your workspace, morning routine, or your favorite coffee mug that keeps you going.

You can even call it your “magic potion” for productivity. I once posted a picture of my favorite mug with the caption, “Double-shot latte equals double-shot confidence!” It got more likes than any other post that month because people love seeing the real person behind the brand.

7. End with a “Treat”

Before Halloween ends, give your followers something valuable—like a free checklist, mini training, or motivational message. A “treat” doesn’t have to cost you anything; it just needs to show you care.

When I share free resources or host mini live sessions, I’m always amazed at how many women reach out afterward to say thank you. That’s what community is all about—lifting each other up, one spooky season at a time.

Final Thoughts

As women entrepreneurs, we wear so many hats—mom, mentor, marketer, and motivator. But the truth is, business doesn’t have to feel serious all the time. When we bring joy, creativity, and a little spooky fun into our work, we connect with our audience in a way that’s natural and real.

So, this fall, try one (or all!) of these spooky social media tricks to boost engagement. You might be surprised by how much your audience loves the playful side of your brand.

And remember—your presence is your power. Keep showing up, sharing your heart, and building your business one post at a time.
